ABOUT KITSERD

KITSERD means : Krishna Institute for Training in Self Employment and Rural Development.

KITSERD: A Profile

Krishna Institute for Training in Self Employment and Rural Development arch (KITSERD) is a private, non-profit Community Action Agency, chartered on November 27, 1997 with cosponsor ship of State Bank of India and Krishna Grameena Bank. The institute is celebrating it’s a decade service of dedication to Rural Society in Gulbarga and Bidar districts. The mission of KITSERD is “to help the rural un-employed and under-employee, educated and uneducated Men and Women, low-income, elderly, youth, persons with physical disabilities, minority, other disadvantaged persons and the general public to help themselves, so that they may become self-sufficient and enrich their lives.” KITSERD annually provides services to over 4,000 people touching more than 15,000 people throughout backward districts of Gulbarga and Bidar of KARNATAKA State.

The Mission of KITSERD is to help the rural un-employed and under-employee, educated and uneducated Men and Women, low-income, elderly, children and youth, persons with disabilities, other disadvantaged persons, and the general public to help themselves, so that they may become self-sufficient and enrich their lives through imparting various training programmes specially tailored for sill development suiting target groups.

KITSERD has been “helping people...changing lives” for 11 years. An articulate advocate for those whose voices are often not heard—rural un-employed and under-employed, educated and uneducated Men and Women , elderly, disabled, youth and the economically disadvantaged—KITSERD operates programs in Karnataka particularly in the backward districts of Gulbarga and Bidar in the. From transportation and early childhood education to assistance with small business development KITSERD works in concert with the public and private sector.

CHARACTERISTICS OF KITSERD

Following are some of the characteristic features of Krishna institute for training in self employment and rural development.

· Empowerment through entrepreneurship and rural development

· Number of trainees trained in KITSERD training and development programme are 16225 members per year.

· Composition of members is based in accordance with programme opted for e.g.: Agriculture EDPS, process EDPS (technical and mechanical), product EDPS, general EDP like PMRY, SGSY etc.

· Full and regular attendance must be ensured

· Each and every member must participate in decision making.

· Gender aspect, separation of group as male and female for training.

· Trainees are trained for effective loan utilization and early repayment of loan.

· Accountability of record, account must be maintained and approved by auditor

· Separate appointment of auditor to audit the books of accounts.

ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY KITSERD

A) Formation of group:

One of the major functions of the institution is to organize the interested mass community. Because of no development activity is possible to be carried out separately, unless the participation of the interested mass community with this programme is ensured. With this end in view, the institution has been organizing them under various programs. As a result of organizing them, their mutual relationship, unity and solidarity are growing steadier and their organizational powers have been increasing and there have been the display of their leadership.

B) Procurement

They themselves conduct group meetings and record minutes and group resolutions, besides in all these meetings subject-based group education are imparted regularly. Besides, the group members, having discussed their own various problems in the meetings, render assistance to the group members about the subject of training arisen out of problems. Because of the stand of the interested mass community in the primary group, their participation is ensured in implementation of the programme. The work plan is taken up subject to discussions with them and their opinion too. As a result, the group members appreciate these programs as the matters of the development of their own and render all out assistance in all matters. Their active participation plays a dominant role in achieving the goal of programme. Not only this, they play a special role in order to keep the qualitative standard of service in tact and in implementation of the programme too successfully.

C) Training

Krishna institute for training in self employment and rural development (KITSERD) has been conducting various types of training activities at present conducted by the organization. Following are some of training programme high lights.

1) Women Business counseling

This is the first project of provide business-counseling services sponsored by Karnataka women and child welfare department – Government of Karnataka Undertaking. The services are provided free of cost to the counselees. The services include;

Business counseling for startups and those on growth path.

Providing access to enterprise support organizations.

Awareness on enterprise opportunities, projects and programmes.

Guidance to prepare business plans.

Credit referral services.

As at 2007-08, 880 women from different taluks have availed the counseling services.

2) Entrepreneurship

These are training programmes to make the trainees first generation entrepreneurs. The trainings were designed based on adult pedagogy covering three modules:

Entrepreneurial competencies

Launching a enterprise

Small Business Management

Method of finance management

Effective utilization of loan.

The trainees concluded the trainings with their own business plans. They are provided handholding services to startup their ventures. The programmes are sponsored by KGB and SBI.

3) PMRY - EDPS

Prime Ministers Rozgar Yojana is a credit linked subsidy scheme to help the un employed educated youth to start their self employment. KITSERD provides Entrepreneurship Development trainings to the unemployed youth in Gulbarga and Bidar districts. The trainees are linked to the Banks in the district for credit assistance and other support to organizations to start up their ventures.

4) SGSY

The Zilla Panchayat, Gulbarga sponsored a good number of 3 days’ training programmes during the year. The activates covered were Churmuri bhatti, Chappal making, poultry farming, bricks manufacturing, bamboo basket, patrawali making, chilly powder making and bakery, animal husbandry, sheep rearing, goat rearing, vermicompost, business etc for women SHGs. The Suvarna Gram Swaraj Yojana was rated excellent.

5) Unique program

With the interest of Branch Manager KGB, a day Training programme of Book keeping to 21 SH Group members was conducted.

6) Devadasi Rehabilitation

Programme Devadasi Rehabilitation sponsored 3 programmes for Ex-Devadasis to undergo 3 days EDP, wherein 72 Ex-Devadasis Participated.

7) Sponsored by Institute

KITSERD was able to conduct 4 own programmes for developing skills and entrepreneurial qualities covering 55 trainees.

D) Self-Employment Assistance & Entrepreneurial Training Programme by sponsored KITSERD

Besides above training programme KITSERD also conduct special class room training by charted accountant, trainer, teacher who have special knowledge with new business strategy.

1. Start-up Specifics

The workshop provides basic knowledge of the laws affecting business. Business owners learn how to choose the appropriate business structure, assess business risks, provide adequate protection and establish proper record keeping and controls.

2. Legal Contracts

The course provides the basic understanding of contract law, legal ownership of a business, stock and partnership agreements. .

3. Small Business Record-Keeping

Learn what records you need to keep, how to do your own book keeping and use records as a management. Key topics include: manual and/or recommended software to use, inventory control, cash flow management, end of month summary procedures, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, cash disbursements, profit and loss controls, internal controls and back up needed for tax deductions.

4. Understanding Financial Statements (ECP Certificate Program)

Learn to enhance and clarify your bottom line. Topics include spreadsheets, understanding revenue and expense, structure and relationships, meaningful forecasts and projections, break-even analysis, balance sheets, P&L and cash flow.

5. Small Business Taxes

Learn which type of entity is best for you to structure your company: as Sole Proprietor, Partnership, Corporation. Receive information about tax responsibilities based on the entity you choose, including estimates taxes, sales tax, payroll taxes and corporate taxes. In addition, the course covers tax deductions you are entitled to and would not want to miss. Participants are encouraged to bring any questions with them to the class.

6. Entrepreneur Assessment

Have you ever considered being a business owner? Do you have the characteristics and fundamentals to run a business? Find out if entrepreneurship is right for you. During the session complete a self-assessment questionnaire to determine if you have the personal characteristics, the financial fitness and the business readiness skills to own a business, then score and interpret your own results.

7. How to Obtain Financing and Business Plan Review

Now that you have written your business plan, learn how to use the plan and the steps necessary to obtain financing. In addition, bring your business plan to have an expert review and comment on your plan.

8. QuickBooks for Small Businesses

This introductory course explains how QuickBooks can simplify the accounting process for your small business. Participants learn about the set-up for a small business. Learn how to record transactions, understand the reports generated from QuickBooks and understand the components of the financial statements.

E) Advocacy meeting on District level

Every year various types of meeting and assembly, academy meeting and workshop are arranged with the Government Officers. An advocacy meeting was arranged in the auditorium of the Krishna institute for training in self employment and rural development (KITSERD).The distinguished persons of the locality were present in the workshop as the chief guest.

In the advocacy meeting the orators thanked the KGB and SBI bank for taking such a coordinated project. They laid special stress upon various employment, health and education activities. They promised to render all types of assistance too.

F) Workshop with the leaders of development partners

For conducting development activities, assistance of leaders of development partners is necessary at all spheres. Because they are most near to the people of the project area and are well conversant with the overall problems. They are very interested and cordial for solving their own problems and problems of the public. Every year on various issues, amongst distinguished persons of development partners, public representatives, professional persons, meeting, assembly, seminar or workshop are arranged for exchange of views. The distinguished persons of the locality, professionals, public representative various, departments and private organizations participate in this workshop. In the workshop, for the all-out development of the poor masses, the sectors of all-out assistance are detected and for implementation of various activities of the project, all types of probable assistance are sworn in.

G) Co-ordination meeting with Department of Government

For implementation of KITSERD program, in order to coordinate with the Government Activities, regular coordination meeting is held at local levels. Besides other projects the coordination meeting is held with the officers and staff Department of Government in every two/three months. In all these meetings, apart from the officers of various Government Departments, officer of Departments and senior officers of KGB and SBI participated.

Discussions are made for solving coordination and necessary guidelines are given. Besides, youth reproduction health, development project of education and health condition, Human Development and under women development project, regular coordination meetings are held. In all these meetings, trainer, teacher, local leaders, public representative, remain present.

H) HIV/AIDS resistant program:

KITSERD has another very important activity on HIV/AIDS prevention programme. Arrangement for seminar, meeting and assembly on own initiative every year are made. Under the Human Development Project and women development & under the income education and development of health condition of the downtrodden this year and one rally have been made. World Environment Day, World AIDS day celebrations, are made.

The organization chart explains about the consistency of members in KITSERD. Where board of governance are Chief General Manager of State Bank of India, Bangalore and also the President of KITSERD. General Manager, State Bank of India LHO Bangalore, Chairman, Krishna Grameena Bank Gulbarga, Deputy General Manager, Lead Bank Corporate Office, State Bank of India, Mumbai, Deputy General Manager, State Bank of India, Hubli, Assistant General Manager, State Bank of India, LHO Bangalore, Lead Bank Manager, Gulbarga are Members of KITSERD.
