ABOUT SHAHABAD ALSTOM COMPANY

HISTORY:
Company (ACC) a need for maintenance of workshops at each plant was noticed. Hence, in the year 1942 central workshops at Shahabad, Lechery and Madukharai were started to manufacture spare parts for ACC plants. Then, in 1945 manufacturing of complete units of kilns, mills and crushers .In central workshops were started. At these central workshops machines Required for complete cement plants we were started manufacturing in the Year 1952-54.Later, this unit combined with the Vickers Armstrong & Babcock and Wilcox of U.K As partners under the banner of ACC-AVB (ACC-Vickers-Babcock) to manufacture cement and boilers, head Office at Durgapur in the year 1959.

In the year 1961 central workshops at Shahabad works shifted to present Location and named as ACC-Heavy Engineering (ACC-SHE) to Manufacture cements plant to outsiders other than ACC. Then, Cast iron Foundry Manufacturing of EOT cranes with Hitachi collaboration was added To this Unit and renamed as ACC-Shahabad heavy Engineering (ACC-SHE).In the year 1974 ACC-SHE was sold to AVB for expansion of Capacity for boiler Manufacturing and renamed as AVB-SW and tube shops And other balancing equipment’s for boiler manufactures for boiler .

Manufacture was started. In the year 1983 this ABL became Government Supervised company with administrative control by Energy ministry and Other financial institution and Government of India with having major Shares and ACC-Babcock continued to be partners. In the year 1995 a Multinational company took over the management of ABL with 74% of the Shareholding and named as ABB-ABL ltd.

In the year 1999 ABB-ALSTOM power boilers Ltd. Was formed With 50:50% of shares. In the year May 2000, ALSTOM acquired 50% of The shares of the ABB of theirs joint company and renamed as ALSTOM Power boilers Ltd. and it is now 100% shares owned by ALSTOM. In the Year Nov-2003.ALSTOM power boilers ltd .Renamed as ALSTOM Project India ltd.

On 6th July 2012 Company renamed as ALSTOM India ltd.

SHAHABAD MANUFACTURING UNIT:
Shahabad, a little town in the northern part of Karnataka, is quite well  Know today, primarily due to the presence of ALSTOM projects India ltd., Shahabad unit and secondly due to the abundant stone quarries, from which The famous Shahabad polish stones originate. There many major cement Plants in the surroundings areas due to the natural resource of limestone Available in abundance.

During the course of last three decades, this unit has built up an Experience of manufacturing and supplying of cement plants and machinery Including all types of milling system for cement, limestone, coal etc., EOT Cranes, equipment for automatic energy, steel plant equipment, rubber Machinery, mining machinery, electronic precipitators, industrial boilers, Utility boilers including pressure parts, structural, pulverize, soot blowers, HP piping etc.

In addition, Shahabad unit has carved a niche for itself in the Manufacture and supply of casting in high alloy iron etc. catering to various Industries and particular specialized in the manufacture of grinding elements For the pulverizes. Except the manufacture of pressure parts, dedicate to the Durgapur unit of ALSTOM power boiler, this unit manufacture the rest of Boilers products.

A highly dedicated term of about 469 employees is managing Shahabad unit which is one of the manufacturing facilities in the private Sector, in southern India. This unit undertakes manufacture of critical boiler Products like boilers and air heater supporting structure and miscellaneous Fabrication, hydro mechanical equipment, power cycle piping system, soot Blowing system, pulverize and mills various types and foundry product Catering to not only thermal power, but also to various other applications.

The Shahabad unit is also gearing up to obtain ISO-14001 Certification by the year 2001. Various awareness and orientation program have already been completed. Another interesting thing to note is that the Shahabad unit the years has developed greenery in its township and Surrounding by planting more than 4 lakes and encouraging the resident to Maintain Lawns and plants in their own homes.

Product Profile
AIL SHAHABAD has two main product lines:
Ø  Pulveriser production
Ø  Foundry  production

The Pulveriser production includes:
Ø  Castings Coal pulveriser and milling systems.
Ø  Soot blowers.
Ø  Heavy fabrication parts including hydro mechanical equipment.
Ø  Heat exchangers and pressure vessels (condensers, detractors)

The above items have been supplied from AIL Shahabad for various utilities like 2x210 mw Chandrapur TPP, 2x210 mw korba TPP, 3x210mw Backaro TPP, 2x250mw budge TPP, 2xl25mw Akrimote TPP and 469 mw gaoutami CCPP to name a few.

AIL Shahabad is already an established name in the cement sector with cement machinery equipment like apron conveyers, crushers, horizontal and vertical grinding mills, kilns, coolers having been supplied to almost all major incline cement manufacturers (ACC, century, JK corp.)

AIL Shahabad also serves the steel sector by supplying coal pulverisering and pneumatic transport systems for coal injection systems, the JINDAL steel.

Plants at TORANGALLAN in Karnataka and Raigarh in Chhattisgarh are one of the major customers of AIL Shahabad for these systems.

The foundry productions include:
Ø   Grey ion casting.
Ø   Spheroid graphite iron casting
Ø   Corrosion resistant iron casting.
Ø   Wear resistant iron casting.

Some of the major casting items produced in the AIL Shahabad foundry is grinding media for e-mills and bowl mills, bump casing, rolls for steel plants, values bodies, wind mill casting, cement machinery castings and general engineering.

STRENGTH:
1.      Company has a world leader status in power and infrastructure markets.
2.      The company has a long period of operation and has strong existence in the market.
3.      Well-developed infrastructure with 649 acres of land providing.
4.      All the majors’ welfare facilities to the staff.
5.      The company is located near the river kagina thus having no problem of water at all.
6.      Company has a high business ethics and values.
7.      The company has the never ending market throughout the world as it specializes in power and transport infrastructure.
8.      It has very reputed companies as its customer situated all over the world.
9.      It is well connected through rail and air

WEAKNESSES:
1.      It has a BHEL as a major competitor which is a public sector company which snatches many order of ALSTOM due to its political influence.
2.      Due to the large scale of production the company faces slight labour problems like lack of experience, labour turnover.

OPPORTUNITIES:
1.         The company has good opportunities for further capacity expansion as it is having a large amount of extra and.
2.         The company is having a wide speeded international presence which will help the company to bag orders.
3.         The company is making good profit since a long time. This helps the company to diversify its operation in various geographical areas.
4.         The power and transport market of the company is growing rapidly throughout the world.
5.         It has very less number of competitors throughout the world.
6.         The company leads by very qualified and experienced directors.

MY SUGGESTIONS TO COMPANY (as per my knowledge) :-
1.         The current liability as it has increases year by year. The management should pay off its liability as it may affect the liquidity position of the company.
2.         The company should practice good budgetary control techniques that should be accurate and be attachable by the company. And also these budgetary techniques should help the company to reduce the cost in the futures.
3.         The sales of the company are increasing year after year. Thought there is a cut throat competition in the market. The sales are in an increasing trend. It is because of good quality of his product at reasonable price and customer satisfaction. It is better if the company adopts the same policy in the future.
4.         The company has to take steps to carry on effective training and EDP

5.         The company has to strive hard to improve the various turnover i.e. debtors turnover ratio, inventory turnover ratio.

  7. I need to know more about ACC Babcock which supplied complete cement plant to CCI Cement Corporation of India Ltd in 1970s for Bokajan unit, I need to know the design and technology of Kilns and Ball Mills
