ORIGIN AND GROWTH OF SUN DIRECT DTH:

Sun direct is a DTH satellite television provider in India .using MPEG-4 digital comparison technology transmitting INSAT 48 AT 93.5 EAST. An MEASAT AT 91.5 EAST. it is the countries first MPEG technology  DTH service provider its main competitors are cable television ,other DTH services provider like airtel digital tv, reliance big tv ,dd direct + dish tv , tata sky , videocon d2h.

Sun direct joint venture between the Marans sun network family and the astro group of Malaysia .sun tv entered in to an[MOU] with the astro group in jan 27, 1997. Kal media service has applied for permission for astro to pick up a 37.5%stake in kal media service was than meant to pick a 40%stake in sun direct giving astro an effective and indirect stake of 15%taking astro total effective holding in the DTH company to 35%currently astro via a subsidiary south asia entertainment holding holds 20%stake in sun direct.
