DEMAND POTENTIAL & AVILABILTIY OF RAW MATERIALS:

Pulses are rich sources of proteins containing 18.25% of proteins. These pulses are Toor Dall, Bengal Gram, Black Gram, Green Gram, Red Gram, Peasons Beans, Masur Dall., etc., In addition, they provide B Vitamins and Minerals. Among pulses, toor dall plays an important role because dietary habits prevailing in the country. Pulses like Bengal Gram, Black Gram, Green Gram are also used considerably in the country. Major population of our country prefers dall proteins compared to other proteins from meat and egg. The dietary requirements of proteins varies from 55 Gms to 75 Gms. Per day for adults and 25 to 50 Gms. for children and adolescents. Balance diets prescribed for adults have to consume at least 85 to 115 Gms. Pulses per day and children about 30 to 85 Gms. Apart from other protein foods in their daily diet.

This means 30 to 40 Kgs. Pulses per annum for each children and adolescents per annum are required. As per 2001 Census, Karnataka has a population of 7.50 crores out which, 4.21 crores children and adolescents and other class of people and remaining and workers and managerial workers. Based on the dietary requirements Kamataka requires about 15.15 Lakhs tones of pulses per year. These pulses are consumed mainly in the form of Dall. After milling the dry pulses about 80% of Dall is estimated to yield from pulses by using the modern Dall Mill; The per capita availability of pulses in the country is about 41 Gms. In 2007. The availability of Dall is much less compared to the dietary requirements. Therefore the marketability of the pulses depends only in availability Dall. The major purchases of dall in our state is Food and Civil Supplies Corporation, Co-operative Marketing Society Limited, Karnataka Co-operative Consumers Federation., etc.

THE RAW MATERIALS AVAILABILITY is very good in Gulbarga District and also in the neighbouring districts, Bidar, Bijapur, Belgaum, Raichur and Dharwad. Etc., Hence, the unit will not suffer from shortage of Raw Materials Considering the Demand for pulses and good availability of raw material as well as the entrepreneurs background would result in bringing up the unit successfully.

Infrastructural Facilities

Location:

The unit is proposed to come up in the Plot No 2(2), at K.I.A.D.B. Kapnoor Industrial Area, 2 Phase, Humanabad Road -Gulbarga, measuring one acre. The area of the plot is sufficient for handling the manufacturing and storing of materials and finished goods.

The unit has got location advantage like good Broad gauge Railway connection throughout India. In addition State High Way Bidar-Srirangapattanam passes through city of Gulbarga, Bombay-Hyderabad Highway is also nearby to transport the manufactured Dall to the major cities like Hyderabad, Bombay and also to Northern parts of India.

Power:

The Proprietor of this unit requires about 50 HP Power, Since it is a industrial area develop of Karnataka State Industrial Board, there arc sufficient supply of Power to the unit.

Water:

The Unit requires about 10 KL of water per day for the production of dall and also for human consumption etc., The water supply will be made available from the K.I.A.D.B. In additional to that, a borewell has been drilled in the premises, the yield of water from borewell is 2”, which is sufficient for the Dall Industry.

Effluents:

The unit does not generate any harmful effluents which might required treatment before its disposal.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS, PLANT & MACHINERY, RAW MATERIALS AND PACKING MATERIALS

Manufacturing Process:

It is proposed to procure the modern Dall mill for manufacturing dall from pulses. The modern dall mill can give yield of 78.82% of dall at lesser time and cost of processing compared to traditional processes. Besides, the possible increased yield, the process is capable operation throughout the year and is completely independent at climatic conditions. The brief description of the process is given below.

A conditioning technique of heat treatment and moisture adjustment of the cleaned size graded grains in specially designed unit losses the husk while making it triable and brittle and the kernel becomes hard. This is a continuous operation replacing the sun drying steps and carried out indoors. The loosened husk is removed by machine to suit the nature and milling characteristics of the pulses.

These machines work either on abrasion or attrition principal and given highest dehusking in a single operation. Dehusked whole pulse obtained from the dehusked and cleaned whole grains are then split under appropriate conditions using Nylon Splitter.

Plant and Machinery

The details of the Plant and Machinery required are works out to Rs. 32.00 Lakhs.

Raw Materials:

Major raw materials required are Toor (whole) and Bengal gram. The unit requires 2000 metric tones of Toor per annum. The total cost of raw materials works out to 4.20 Crores for 100% capacity utilization for one year.

Packing Materials

The major packing materials required is gunny bags of 50 Kg. and 100 Kg capacity for packing the processed dall and husk.
